Grand canyon

By: Glenn Goodhall on 25th Nov 2013

Finally got to Las Vegas we decided to rent a car for a couple of days to visit Death Valley, Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. First up was Death Valley, driving on the open highway not another car in sight for miles nothing but mountains blue sky and sunshine. The views really were stunning we had to stop a few times to get some photo's. I definitely wouldn't want to brake down there even though it's winter the temperature was still really hot.

After Death Valley we went to the Grand Canyon, we quickly found out that the roads to the Grand Canyon were basically dirt tracks but we got there in the end. The Grand Canyon tour has a couple of different stops the first stop was into a old western Ranch called Hualapi We went on a wagon ride lead by a few cowboys which was fun. We got talking to one of the cowboys he was a character, he told us that he went to York in England and asked a local barber to cut his hair like Elvis, to which the barber replied "I can make you look exactly like Elvis" the cowboy then decided to sing "You ain't nothing but a hound dog" at the top of his lungs in the middle of York city centre, to which the barber replied "get out and don't come back". We got the live showing of his version of Hound dog it was pretty bad and very loud.

We got back on the bus to see the Grand Canyon and visit the Sky walk. The sky walk was amazing it's a basically a platform that goes out of the Canyon which has a glass floor so you can see all the way down. Simon jumped on one of the panels which scared a lady who though that it would crack, which was quite funny. The views on the Sky Walk were amazing but unfortunately were wasn't allowed to take photo's on the Sky walk which was a shame.

Before we handed the car back we wanted to see the Hoover Dam and the memorial bridge. We went onto the memorial bridge got some great photo's of the Hoover dam, and then went to the Hoover Dam. There wasn't many parking spaces so I decided to jump out the car get some photos while Simon parked at the side of the road. After I had taken our photos Simon told me that when he was turning around a security guard jumped out of nowhere d started to have a go at him for turning around and told him that he will get the police to sight him. I thought this was hilarious it's amazing what a uniform does to some people.
